Cam Ward Discusses Titans’ Offense Struggles

Cam Ward has been candid about the current state of the Titans’ offensive performance.

“I think we’re somewhere in the middle right now,” the rookie quarterback shared with reporters following training camp practice on Wednesday. “It starts with me, from my role to the receivers’ roles.”

As the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Ward is gearing up to be Tennessee’s starting quarterback this season.

“We’re not exactly where we need to be,” he continued. “But we still have some time. Improvement happens every day. We’re a younger team, but that’s no excuse.”

This week has been challenging for Ward during practice. He has thrown four interceptions over two sessions since the appearance of pads.

His remarks signify a noticeable shift from earlier statements. Just last week, he expressed optimism about the Titans potentially becoming “one of the best offenses in the league.”

Tennessee clinched the top draft pick after a disappointing 3-14 record last season, prompting hopes within the organization for substantial improvements with Ward’s arrival. At 23, he’ll be supported by key receivers Calvin Ridley, Tyler Rockett, and Van Jefferson, along with tight end Chig Okonkwo.

Ward, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist, had an impressive senior year at Miami, racking up 39 passing touchdowns, an average of 9.5 yards per pass, and 14.1 yards per completion.

Previously, he played college football at Incarnate Word (2020-21) and Washington (2021-23).

Despite the interceptions, Titans head coach Brian Callahan remains confident in Ward’s ability to bounce back before the next practice. “It’s just in his nature,” Callahan remarked, “I feel good about how he deals with adversity.”

The Titans will kick off their season on the road against the Broncos on September 7th.
