The Manasquan School District will do whatever it takes to overturn the result of the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Group 2 boys basketball semifinals, after officials waved off a buzzer-beater that would have won the game against Camden High School. They even took legal action. .

But since Tuesday night’s controversy made headlines, Camden athletic director Will Hickson seems to be moving on.

Some commenters said Hixson’s tweet was an act of vandalism, given the lengths Manasquan spent Tuesday night trying to reverse his decision.

After Camden took a one-point lead in the game, Manasquan came down to the court seconds later and made the winning basket. After the first 3-pointer missed, a Manasquan player made a smart run for the rebound and made a quick tip-in before the buzzer sounded. The video of this scene clearly shows that time still stands still when the ball is in the air.

However, after reviewing it together on the court, the officials waved from the basket and claimed that the ball was not released in time and Camden won the game.

New Jersey school district files lawsuit over missed call in basketball state semifinal game

Amid an outpouring of outrage on social media, especially after video of the shooting went viral, the NJSIAA issued a statement saying that after further review, authorities agreed the call was in error. However, the NJSIAA could not overturn the result and award Manasquan a spot in the Group 2 finals, citing rules.

According to NJ Advance Media, Manasquan tried everything to get her sons back on the court, but an Ocean County Superior Court judge refused, and on Friday, the New Jersey Department of Education supported officials’ calls. .

“We are asking the judge [Mark] “Troncone will put the brakes on this game on Saturday pending a judicial review of what happened,” Clark Law Firm said. NJ Advance Media Regarding the “injunctive relief” they were requesting. “What we’re trying to do is put the brakes on this situation.” [final] It is pending who is the right team to play in that match and Manasquan is declared the winner. We contend that NJSIAA rules require the use of videotape to obtain the correct results here. ”

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also commented on the incident, saying he felt “very bad” for Manasquan after watching the video. But it was not in his power to do anything about it.

Manasquan tried everything to no avail, while Camden School District attorney Lou Cappelli Jr. called their efforts “ridiculous.”

“Are we going to look back on all 32 minutes of the game and go to the judge and say, ‘Judge, isn’t this a foul? That’s ridiculous,'” he told the Asbury Park Press.

Hickson’s X account was still active Saturday morning, posting several hip-hop album covers that may not sit well with Manasquan fans.

The first album was Public Enemy’s “Yo! Bum Rush the Show,” but the Camden High School Panthers logo was placed below “Public Enemy” on the album. There was also EPMD’s “Strictly Business”.

Hickson also said Thursday, “What we want to say here at Camden High School is… Leave it to the coaches, coaches! Let the players play! Leave it to the officials! Leave it to the officials! Let’s let the crowd be positive!” posted a tweet.
