Campaign enlists ex-spokesperson for Obama and Clinton who expressed a desire for Trump to die

Former aides to Obama and Hillary Clinton have taken on consulting roles in Zohran Mamdani’s campaign for mayor. This follows a controversial moment during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, when President Trump expressed hope for his own demise after his diagnosis.

Financial records reveal that Mamdani’s campaign, led by the 33-year-old democratic socialist, paid $3,500 to Zara Rahim for communication consulting services. The Washington Free Beacon was the first to report this.

In October 2020, shortly after Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis, Rahim posted on X that she was “hoping he will die,” although she quickly deleted the tweet.

“For the past four years, tweeting this has not aligned with my moral identity, but I hope he dies,” she stated in her now-deleted post.

Despite requests for comment, Mamdani’s campaign representatives have not responded, and Rahim’s X account was deactivated soon after her controversial tweet.

The same outlet noted that Rahim has been involved in supporting the mayor’s campaign initiatives and was present backstage during his recent appearance on Meet the Press.

Rahim has an impressive background, having previously served as Barack Obama’s digital director and worked as a publicist for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

On her personal website, she mentions having collaborated with major brands like Nike, Uber, and Vogue.

She did not respond when asked for comments on her new role.

Mamdani recently achieved a surprising victory in the Democratic mayoral primary, defeating former government official Andrew Cuomo.

He has attracted attention for his assertive remarks regarding property taxes in affluent neighborhoods, emphasizing that billionaires should not exist.

In November, he will face off against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, as well as Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and independent Jim Walden.
