The National Park Service (NPS) is asking for the public’s help in tracking down a couple who allegedly stole artifacts from Utah’s Canyonland National Park.
in press releaseOn March 23, the couple entered Cave Spring Cowboy Camp in the Needles section of the park and entered a restricted area of the camp to remove artifacts from a cabinet, authorities said.
NPS said the couple “handled the historic harness in a manner that could cause damage.”
“National parks are some of our nation’s most special, cherished, and protected areas,” the NPS said in a statement Wednesday.
“In order to protect natural and cultural resources for this and future generations, all people visiting national parks must comply with park laws and regulations and minimize impacts on park lands. You are expected to practice Leave No Trace principles. ”
Park officials are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area or who can help identify the suspect.
