Flight Returns to Nantucket After Cabin Door Malfunction
A Cape Air flight had to turn back to Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Monday due to a cabin door that partially opened shortly after takeoff.
As reported by Nantucket Current, the small aircraft had just left Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) and was en route to Boston when this issue arose.
Passenger footage captured the cabin door slightly opening during the flight, and many people quickly shared their thoughts about the event online.
Despite this alarming situation, the plane remained stable and functioned normally.
Cape Air was contacted for comments regarding the incident.
The pilot successfully returned the plane to Nantucket Island without any injuries reported.
Passengers were then transferred to another aircraft to continue their trip to Boston. Some praised the calm demeanor of the pilots during the ordeal.
One passenger remarked, “The pilot was great. He didn’t panic and managed to get us safely around the island and back to land. We were probably in the air for about six to eight minutes with the door open.”
The airline confirmed the occurrence to local news, stating, “The aircraft was at a stable altitude and was operating normally. The flight crew returned to ACK, and the aircraft landed safely without incident.”
That specific aircraft has been removed from service while the company investigates the cause of the malfunction.
Cape Air emphasized its commitment to all safety protocols and stated that passenger safety remains its highest priority.
In response to videos posted by passengers, some users commented humorously on the situation. One wrote, “Isn’t it a bit cold when you open the windows at this time of year?” while another added, “A little fresh air can’t hurt.”
A separate incident involving Delta Air Lines was highlighted where a flight was delayed after a flight attendant accidentally deployed an emergency slide at Pittsburgh International Airport, leading to a costly delay for the airline.
