Recent data from the Department of Homeland Security reveals a staggering increase, around 3,200%, in vehicle attacks against ICE officers over the past year.
Federal officials attribute this surge to what they describe as violent and extreme rhetoric from politicians who support sanctuary policies. The data shows a rise in car attacks targeting ICE agents from January 21, 2025, to January 7, 2026, climbing to 66 incidents compared to just two the previous year.
Furthermore, there was a reported 1,347% increase in assaults and an 8,000% rise in threats against these officials during the first year of President Trump’s second term.
Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for DHS, stated, “This unprecedented increase in violence against law enforcement is directly tied to the backlash from sanctuary politicians and media narratives that vilify these officers, fostering an environment for such assaults.”
She added, “Criminals, whether undocumented immigrants or U.S. citizens, are using their vehicles as weapons against law enforcement. Still, the courageous personnel at DHS remain committed to apprehending the most egregious offenders.”
McLaughlin also emphasized, “Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face the harshest legal consequences.”
She cited instances of Democratic politicians criticizing federal immigration enforcement, pointing to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz labeling ICE agents as “Trump’s modern-day Gestapo.”
This troubling statistic emerged following a protest in Minneapolis where Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot and killed by an ICE officer after allegedly trying to strike the officer with her car.
