An elderly woman drove her car into a grocery store in Westwood, Los Angeles, leading to the deaths of three people and injuring at least six others.

This tragic incident took place shortly after noon on Thursday, with reports indicating someone was trapped under the vehicle at 99 Ranch Market.

Fire officials initially indicated that some victims might have been hit by the car before it crashed into the building. Eyewitnesses noted that the rear of a silver car was visible sticking out from the store.

While early reports suggested the crash was accidental, authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department acknowledged they were aware of the situation but didn’t provide many details at that time.

The woman believed to be around 70 years old reportedly hit a cyclist prior to crashing into the store. Thankfully, the cyclist survived, although he declined medical attention.

Additionally, fire officials confirmed there was no fire, and the structural integrity of the building remained intact.

According to Eric Scott, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, the response was organized, allowing first responders to manage the chaotic scene and assist the injured swiftly.

The female driver has been assessed and is cooperating with the investigation.

The store itself is situated near the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Rochester Avenue, just a short distance from UCLA.

The Los Angeles Fire Department could not be reached for further comment in time for this report.
