Cardi B Found Not Liable in Assault Case
On September 2, a judge in Los Angeles County ruled that Cardi B will not face a $24 million damage claim after determining she did not assault a security guard. This verdict wraps up a case that began back in 2018.
The former security guard, Emmani Ellis, had accused Cardi B, whose legal name is Belkalris Almanzar, of physically and emotionally harming him during an argument at a Beverly Hills office. Ellis claimed that during the altercation, Cardi scratched his face, which he alleges left scars that required plastic surgery.
Cardi B, reportedly trying to conceal her pregnancy at the time, encountered Ellis while she was entering the office, as per local news outlets. She firmly denied the accusations, stating, “I didn’t touch the woman.”
After being found not liable in the civil case, Cardi reiterated her innocence, expressing her steadfast position: “I didn’t touch the girl. I didn’t put my hands on the girl.”
The case generated significant attention online, with social media users creating memes and discussing various moments from the trial. Notably, Ellis sharply criticized the rapper, recounting that she was very upset and had pointed her finger in his face during their confrontation.
Eyewitness accounts varied, as a doctor’s secretary claimed to have seen Ellis cornering Cardi but struggled to explain the start of their argument. Moreover, Cardi’s defense argued that Ellis had not sustained serious injuries, highlighting that he didn’t seek hospital treatment or file a police report, instead choosing to go home and rest.
Following the trial, Cardi B faced the media briefly, reportedly missing the first day of school for her child and the release of her latest album, amid the press coverage surrounding the case.
