Cardinal Dolan: Trump 'takes his Christian faith seriously'

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York said in an interview broadcast Sunday that President-elect Trump “takes his Christian faith seriously.”

“I've talked to him in the past and he was pretty frank in saying that he took his Christian faith seriously, although he wasn't raised as a very devout Christian. ” Dolan says. told the host Maria Bartiromo appears on FOX News' “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Dolan recently met with Trump at Notre Dame Cathedral and said he was “pleased” to meet him “somewhere other than 5th Avenue.”

President Trump and First Lady Jill Biden attended the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral earlier this month. The cathedral suffered a devastating fire in the spring of 2019, which resulted in the collapse of the spire and the wooden latticework of the roof.

Bartiromo also mentioned the recent assassination attempt on the president-elect this year in his interview with Dolan, saying the incident in Pennsylvania in July “just missed him.”

“It's hard to explain anything other than God's work,” Bartiromo said.

“Well, you know, I think of Maria. I think of Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II,” Dolan responded. “They both survived assassination attempts in close proximity. When they first met, Ronald Reagan told Pope St. John Paul II, 'Mother Teresa said to me that the Lord saved me. 'Because the Lord has done it,' he said, 'I have something special in mind for me.'

“And Pope St. John Paul II smiled and said, 'She said the same thing to me,'” he added.
