Will Carlos Beltran Don a Mets Cap in Cooperstown?
That’s the big question following the election of the former Mets star to the Baseball Hall of Fame this past Tuesday. Beltran, who also played for teams like the Royals, Yankees, Cardinals, Astros, Rangers, and Giants, has sparked curiosity regarding which cap he will represent.
In a conversation with the Post last year, Beltran mentioned he planned to wear a Mets cap, but during an appearance on MLB Network, he left things a bit uncertain. “I have to talk about it with my family—Jessica and the kids,” he said. “I had great times in New York, and now working as an advisor for the Mets makes wearing that uniform quite significant for me.”
Beltran, soon to be inducted in 2026, admitted that throughout his career, he envisioned the opportunity to play for the Royals, which he described as “awesome.” However, his trajectory shifted when he was traded from the Royals to Houston in 2004, eventually signing a seven-year deal with the Mets the following season. “New York truly invested in my career,” he remarked.
As he enters the Hall of Fame, Beltran secured 84.2 percent of the votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America in his fourth year on the ballot. Over his seven seasons with the Mets, he batted .280, registered 149 home runs, and brought in 559 RBIs. He was recognized as a five-time All-Star and earned three Gold Glove Awards in center field. Earlier in his career, while with Kansas City, he was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 1999, hitting 123 home runs over 795 games.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, Mets owner Steve Cohen and his wife Alex expressed their congratulations, saying, “We are thrilled to acknowledge Carlos for achieving baseball’s highest honor. He was one of the most dynamic players to ever wear a Mets uniform, blending extraordinary power and speed with elite defense. His influence extends beyond just his on-field achievements; he continues to shape our organization. This is a proud moment for Carlos, his family, and Mets fans around the globe.”
