UFC Champion Carlos Ullberg Loses Championship Belt After Victory
After securing the light heavyweight title at UFC 327, champion Carlos Ullberg has reported an unfortunate incident: he lost the championship belt just after winning it. This happened during a celebration following his victory over Jiri Prochaska.
“I lost the belt, brother,” Ullberg shared, indicating that his initial plan was to avoid drinking. But, as he put it, “you know how things like this go.” First, someone offered him champagne, and then, well, one thing led to another.
The 35-year-old fighter, originally from New Zealand, managed to clinch the championship title with a knockout, overcoming a knee injury in the process. However, this injury might keep him sidelined for an entire year, which could eventually force him to give up his championship status. The UFC is already arranging an interim title fight in his absence.
Despite this setback, Ullberg remains optimistic about the lost belt. He expressed confidence that the championship belt would be found before he travels to Las Vegas for knee evaluations. There’s a chance it may still be in his apartment—perhaps even tucked away with one of his friends. “I think the belt is still somewhere in the apartment,” Ullberg mused, “because I didn’t want to carry it around with me.”
