Carly Simon Supports Sabrina Carpenter Amid Controversy

Carly Simon has come to the defense of Sabrina Carpenter following some backlash over her recent album cover.

Carpenter’s artwork for “Man’s Best Friend,” which features her in a hands-and-knees pose, has stirred quite a conversation. In the photo, she’s wearing a black mini dress paired with matching heels.

Simon pointed out that the reaction to Carpenter’s album seems relatively mild compared to what artists have faced in the past. “She’s not doing anything outrageous,” Simon remarked in an interview with Rolling Stone. “It looks like he’s been tamed.”

She referenced more provocative covers in music history, like The Rolling Stones’ “Adhesive Fingers,” stating, “There was a much more flashy cover than hers. So, I don’t really get why she’s drawing so much criticism.”

When Carpenter revealed the cover, reactions poured in. One person expressed discomfort, saying, “This cover makes me uncomfortable…” while another simply stated, “I hate that!!!” Conversely, some fans appreciated her artistic direction, declaring, “I want her to be iconic.”

Simon, known for her own bold artistic choices, reflected on the criticism she faced for her 1975 album cover for “Paysum.” “Everyone saw it and people definitely responded to it,” she shared. “But they probably wouldn’t have told me what they really thought.”

The iconic cover, featuring Simon in a black lace dress matching leather boots, was captured by Norman Thief. He recalled receiving calls from major publications like ‘Time’ and ‘Newsweek,’ labeling it one of the sexiest covers ever.

Meanwhile, Carpenter, who rose to fame as a Disney star, has been known for her daring performances. Earlier this year, she surprised audiences in Paris with some explicit dance moves. During her “Short N’Sweet” world tour, she’s been seen simulating various sexual positions while performing her hit “Juno.” Carpenter has even playfully asked, “Want to try some weird positions? / Have you tried this?”

During that Paris show, amidst the backdrop of the city, she and her dancers mimicked a provocative act named after a famous Parisian landmark. Dressed in a miniskirt and sparkling halter top, Carpenter was seen bending between her two dancers, mirroring the iconic structure’s image.

This performance has split opinions online. While some fans deemed it inappropriate for younger viewers, others recognize her right to evolve as an artist stepping into adulthood.
