This week’s guest on Episode 100 of Points Forward is Carmelo Anthony, and the NBA legend doesn’t mince words about the need for Team USA to have a strong presence at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

You can move the starters around however you like, but this is a rough guide to what America will do on the court this summer. This represents not only basketball’s biggest international stars of the past 20 years like Steph, LeBron and KD, but also a new generation of stars like Ant, Tatum and Embiid.

Even back then, the best teams in the world didn’t go head-to-head with LeBron and KD on a nightly basis. There’s more parity now, and more importantly, international players aren’t as surprised as they used to be when playing against NBA talent.
America’s Achilles heel has always been readiness. On paper, no one can match America, so this is never a question of talent. But as we’ve seen with international teams in the past, their teamwork and chemistry often far exceeds that of the NBA stars we send.
It will be a fascinating Olympics, especially with so many dangerous teams in the group. Serbia is the only favorite to win the title other than the United States with Jokic, but it is still considered unlikely.
