Carson Beck Faces Tough Reception at NFL Combine

Miami quarterback Carson Beck had an interesting experience at the NFL Combine this past Saturday.

When Beck, who is 23, stepped onto the field at Lucas Oil Stadium, he encountered a wave of boos from the Hoosier fans in attendance.

However, Beck appeared unfazed and even seemed to chuckle during the training exercises.

These jeers likely stemmed from an earlier incident where Beck declined to shake hands with Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza following Miami’s 27-21 loss to the Hoosiers in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In that game, Beck’s final career throw was intercepted by Indiana’s Jamari Shape, sealing the victory for the Hoosiers.

“That player played really well,” Beck commented after the game. “They were in Cover 2 and he sank without a threat in the flat and played really well on the ball. Huge credit to them and their defense. They played really, really well.”

He added, “In that moment you react and, well, it happened. It’s rough. It’s going to sting for a bit.”

Interestingly, Beck wasn’t the only quarterback to receive negative feedback from the crowd; Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia also faced similar treatment when he was shown on screen.

Pavia drew attention for his Instagram post after finishing second to Mendoza in the Heisman voting, expressing his frustrations with the voters.

“F-All THE VOTERS,” Pavia shared on his Instagram Story last December, accompanied by a thumbs-down emoji. “But… family is for life.”

Later, Pavia expressed regret over his comments, acknowledging they were “rude” and that he didn’t manage his emotions well.

“It was a great honor to be a finalist at last night’s Heisman ceremony,” Pavia expressed on X. “As a competitor, like in everything I do, I wanted to win. It hurt to come so close to my dream and fall just short. I just couldn’t handle those emotions very well.”

He concluded by emphasizing his respect for the Heisman voters and apologized for the misunderstanding, stating, “It was a mistake. I am sorry.”
