Cardinals Edge Out Hurricanes in Thrilling Showdown

Miller Moss threw two touchdown passes to Chris Bell and added a rushing touchdown, leading Louisville to a 24-21 victory over Miami on Friday night. This win is seen as a pivotal moment in the franchise’s history, particularly after intercepting four passes from Miami’s Carson Beck.

Starting strong, Louisville (5-1, 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) jumped to a 14-0 lead with touchdowns on their first two drives. Unfortunately for the Hurricanes (5-1, 1-1), they spent the remainder of the game chasing that gap.

This game ended Miami’s impressive home winning streak at 10 games. Interestingly, Louisville was the last team to pull off a win here, back in 2023.

As the game neared its conclusion, the Hurricanes were in a position to score, but Louisville’s TJ Capers intercepted Beck’s pass with just 32 seconds left, firmly securing the victory for the Cardinals.

Moss had a solid performance, completing 23 of 37 passes for 248 yards. Isaac Brown contributed significantly, rushing for 113 yards on 15 carries. Bell was a standout, catching nine passes for 136 yards, including touchdown receptions of 35 and 36 yards.

For Miami, Beck went 25 of 35 for 271 yards, but the team struggled to find success on the ground, managing only 63 rushing yards on 24 attempts against Louisville’s top-tier defense.

This victory was particularly meaningful as Louisville had a dismal 1-8 record when facing teams ranked No. 1 or 2 in the Associated Press poll, with their previous win against a top duo occurring back in 2016 against No. 2 Florida State.

Away games had been particularly tough for the Cardinals; they were 0-18 against top-10 teams in true road games before this triumph. Many of those games were lopsided losses, with an average defeat margin of 26.3 points.

At halftime, Miami led 14-10 and managed to narrow the score to 17-13 entering the fourth quarter. However, Moss’s 36-yard touchdown grab early in the final period put the Cardinals ahead again. Beck had two interceptions in the first half and struggled with ball control, fumbling on the next drive with 7:50 remaining.

After a fumble, Malachi Toney scored on a 12-yard run and threw for a two-point conversion, giving Miami a brief 24-21 lead. Nevertheless, they couldn’t get close again for the remainder of the game.
