Carson Steele’s first NFL start for Chiefs includes missing sister’s wedding

Carson Steele made his first NFL start on Sunday against the Falcons, but that wasn't the only big moment for the Steele family.

While the Chiefs running back was on the field, his sister Kessler was getting married in Indiana.

In a strange twist of fate, Steele made his NFL debut on the same day his sister got married, and the wedding reception turned into a viewing party.

Though the Steeles weren't in attendance at each other's big day, they were clearly there in their hearts: Kessler sent NBC's “Sunday Night Football” broadcast a video showing wedding reception guests watching the running backs' big moment on TV.

“Kessler and her now-husband, Jack, sent us a video of their wedding reception showing Carson making his first NFL start,” NBC reporter Melissa Stark reported. “The timing was bad: today was the only day the venue was open. Carson's sister set the date over a year in advance, and Carson was supposed to be a groomsman. But luckily, they had a big screen, so Carson will be there in his heart.”

To cap off a special day for the Steele family, the running back gained 72 yards on 17 carries as the Chiefs beat the Falcons 22-17.

The Chiefs' appearance on NBC's “Sunday Night Football” led to another cameo appearance by Steele's pet alligator, Clocky J.

NBC aired a photo of Clocky J wearing a white Chiefs hat.

The pet alligator became known to football fans during the Ravens' season opener against the Chiefs in Week 1.

Kessler was actually taking care of his brother's alligator when Clocky J stole the hearts of football fans during Week 1's games.

in Indianapolis Star interviewKessler told the outlet that monitoring Croquis J is a “regular job.”

“It's pretty easy,” Kessler said, “He's a very docile gator. I just haven't spent as much time with him as I have with Carson, but I don't mind taking care of him.”
