A rising star in Mexico’s drug music scene has been shot and killed by unidentified cartel gunmen near the Baja California border city of Tijuana. The musician known as Chuy Montana has previously received threats from organized crime groups.
On Wednesday, authorities in Tijuana found the body of Jesus Norberto “Chuy Montana” Cárdenas Velazquez on the side of the road along the Tijuana-Rosarito highway, Zeta Tijuana reported.
Preliminary information revealed that the gunmen decapitated Chuy Montana as he was driving, handcuffed him and forced him into the car. The musician managed to jump out, only to be shot multiple times in the face and chest area.
By the time authorities arrived at the scene, the perpetrators had already fled. The killings come amid an ongoing wave of violence in Tijuana as various drug cartels vie for control of the area.
