James Carville Weighs In on Jasmine Crockett’s Senate Campaign
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville shared his thoughts on Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Senate campaign during his podcast episode on Thursday. He expressed concerns that she often breaks key political norms.
Podcast co-host Al Hunt mentioned that it was encouraging for Crockett to enter the race for the Texas Senate seat. However, he pointed out that the most viable Democratic candidate might actually be Rep. James Talarico, saying, “If he were to run against Ken Paxton, I like those odds.” Overall, Hunt seemed more hopeful for the Democratic prospects in Texas than he’s been in the past.
Carville stated, “Let’s talk about Jasmine Crockett.” He acknowledged her education and energy but critiqued her approach, suggesting she focuses too much on herself rather than on voters’ needs. “She seems to miss the first rule of politics,” he added.
Notably, Carville criticized the amount of money Crockett is pouring into her campaign. He argued that while she may thrive in her heavily Democratic district, she needs to engage with voters in areas that lean more towards Republicans. He explained how winning isn’t just about gaining media attention or raising funds; it involves framing issues and connecting with constituents.
In other comments, Carville referenced Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District as an example of missteps by Democrats, labeling Aftin Behn’s candidacy as a poor choice in a district where Republicans had vulnerabilities. He humorously remarked on how Democrats sometimes seem intent on picking the least favorable candidates.
As he wrapped up, Carville emphasized that successful campaigns rely more on understanding voters than on self-promotion or viral moments. “I don’t think Sen. Crockett is good at that,” he concluded.
Fox News Digital reached out to both Mr. Behn and Crockett for comments but did not receive an immediate response.
