James Carville Suggests Kamala Harris Step Back from 2028 Race
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville expressed his belief on Sunday that former Vice President Kamala Harris should consider stepping down from the 2028 presidential race and feel satisfied with her existing political achievements.
The upcoming Democratic Party nomination has several prominent candidates. Harris initially garnered significant praise when she took office as vice president under Joe Biden. However, her campaign faced a notable setback with a defeat against President Trump in 2024. Following this, many well-known figures have recommended that she take a step back to allow another candidate the opportunity to emerge.
During the show, a listener named Charles, who traveled all the way from New Zealand, questioned Carville’s view on Harris, suggesting that she could have won had Biden withdrawn sooner.
Carville’s co-host, Al Hunt, rebutted this notion, stating, “Charles, we’re not on the same page on this.”
Hunt elaborated, emphasizing that he believed Harris was a poor candidate, even back in 2019. He mentioned that while she once seemed to have a shot at the nomination, her campaign performance was lacking. If Biden had entered the race earlier, Hunt speculated, things might have gone differently, but he still doubts Harris’s potential for success in 2028. “I hope she doesn’t run,” he added.
Previously, Carville commented on Harris’s campaign expenditures, calling it “the most ineffective $2 billion ever spent,” while acknowledging her accomplishments. He cited Harris’s significant roles, such as being the district attorney of San Francisco and serving as attorney general of California, as noteworthy achievements within her political journey.
Carville remarked on her political trajectory: “Literally 99.98572% of any politician would give their right arm to build a successful career.” He expressed that he felt no sympathy for her, highlighting that she had been presented with incredible opportunities.
He also conveyed skepticism about the Democrats revisiting their agenda from 2024, suggesting they aim to move beyond that time period entirely.
In summing up, Carville made it clear that while party members hold respect for Harris and her contributions, there’s an underlying sentiment that a change may be necessary. He proposed an alternative path for her career, hinting at a possible Supreme Court nomination, indicating that there are still avenues left for her in politics.
Fox News Digital sought comments from Kamala Harris, but there was no immediate response.
