Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville stated on Monday that President Trump “has disrupted the essential dynamics of American politics” amid economic concerns related to the president’s tariffs.
“Truly, this will be recorded as one of the most foolish actions of political leadership in U.S. history, as the American president is intentionally damaging the global economy with his tariff chaos,” Carville remarked. I mentioned this in a New York Times Op-Ed.
“This is not just an economic battle; it’s violating a fundamental principle of American politics, which doesn’t anger the economy without causing substantial harm to itself.
In recent weeks, markets have experienced fluctuations as Trump oscillates on tariffs.
Last week, he enacted a 90-day pause on “mutual” tariffs affecting various nations globally but increased tariffs on China. He subsequently warned he would revert to the pause if the country failed to negotiate with his administration promptly.
“This represents an opportunity for Democrats. In February, I urged party leaders to hold back, allowing Republicans to falter and collapse under their own weight.
“Currently, Democrats have a chance to witness Republicans’ collapse as they maintain total dominion over Washington. Avoid becoming a narrative again and don’t obstruct their downfall,” he added.
“As Democrats reclaim their economic message from the Republicans and work to bring the majority of citizens to close the chapter on Trump’s disorder, the journey toward stabilizing and enhancing the nation begins.”
