Georgia Election Interference Case Against Trump Dismissed
A Fulton County Superior Court judge, Scott McAfee, has dismissed the entire election interference case against President Donald Trump and several co-defendants, which includes notable figures like Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows. This decision was made in a brief, one-page order on November 26, 2025, following a request from special prosecutor Pete Skandalakis.
Skandalakis, who is the executive director of the Georgia Prosecuting Attorneys Council, filed a motion to dismiss the case. He argued that most of the alleged activities took place in Washington, D.C., suggesting that federal court would be a more appropriate venue. He emphasized that continuing state litigation in Georgia would not be beneficial.
While he didn’t go so far as to state that only Special Counsel Jack Smith could bring charges, Skandalakis noted that the federal prosecution led by Smith was a more effective means to address the essential allegations. However, it’s worth mentioning that that particular federal case had been dismissed after the 2024 presidential election concluded.
“If Special Counsel Jack Smith, with all the resources of the federal government at his disposal, reviewed the evidence in this case and considered the Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. United States and the years of litigation that such cases inevitably entail, he concluded that the prosecution would be futile,” Skandalakis expressed. “And I think it would be equally counterproductive to prosecute everyone involved in Georgia v. Donald Trump et al. on essentially federal grounds, despite the available evidence.”
The judge promptly ordered a complete dismissal of the case, effectively putting an end to the last criminal case against Trump.
Originally, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was responsible for the case. However, she had to step aside due to a conflict of interest involving her personal relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she had assigned to the case.
Skandalakis took charge earlier this month when he could not find another prosecutor to step in despite reaching out to several individuals.
Steve Sadow, Trump’s lead attorney in this matter, remarked, “Political persecution of President Trump by disqualified prosecutor Fani Willis is finally over.”
