Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pennsylvania) conceded to Republican challenger Dave McCormick in Thursday's Pennsylvania Senate race.
“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election as senator from Pennsylvania,” Casey said in a statement Thursday. “Once the first vote count is complete, Pennsylvanians will be able to move forward knowing their voices have been heard, whether their vote is counted first or last. can.”
An automatic recount was initiated after the total number of votes was within half of 1%. The Associated Press called for McCormick to run two days after Election Day. Hill's partner, Decision Desk Headquarters, called the race for the Republican candidate a week ago.
Casey's statement came just days after the Keystone State began its recount process. The state Supreme Court ordered Monday that counties cannot count mail-in or absentee ballots with incorrect or missing dates.
Mr. Casey, the son of a former Pennsylvania governor, served three terms in the U.S. Senate and vowed to continue fighting for the working and middle classes if re-elected for six more years.
Mr. McCormick, a businessman, defeated the Democratic incumbent in one of the closest races in the country after losing to Dr. Mehmet Oz in the 2022 Republican Senate primary.
“Senator Bob Casey dedicated his career to the betterment of the Commonwealth. Dina and I are deeply grateful to Senator Casey, Senator Therese, and their decades of service, hard work, and personal sacrifice. I would like to express my gratitude,” McCormick said in a statement on social platform X on Thursday.
“I am honored to represent all of Pennsylvania in the United States Senate, and I will fight for you every day.” he added. “thank you!”
