Casey tied to Chinese firm he claimed McCormick-led company invested in to ‘profit’ off Fentanyl crisis

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey, through several mutual funds, invests in the same companies that recently ran ads attacking a Chinese fentanyl manufacturer that is also an investment holding of Republican candidate Dave McCormick.

In an ad released earlier this month, the Pennsylvania senator’s campaign argued that McCormick was “profiting off people’s pain” and slammed his own firm, Bridgewater Associates, for its investment in HumanWell.

But publicly available financial information shows Casey also owns shares in Chinese companies.

Casey owns shares in the College Savings Plan, which is invested in the Massachusetts College Portfolio, a mutual fund managed by Fidelity, and has invested in HumanWell.

The Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s campaign did not comment to Fox News Digital by publication time.

“Bob Casey has exposed his hypocrisy and lies in his ads, which are proof of why Pennsylvanians are tired of career politicians,” McCormick said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Casey has 18 years of experience securing our border and preventing fentanyl from killing 100,000 Americans last year alone. His weakness has made this crisis worse than we could have ever imagined.”

Casey also owns shares in Jiangsu Huahua Pharmaceutical and China National Pharmaceutical Group, which are also involved in the manufacturing and wholesale of Chinese-made opioids.

Humanwell is a pharmaceutical manufacturing company that produces narcotics for medical use. It is not one of the Chinese companies specifically identified by the United States as a manufacturer of deadly fentanyl precursor chemicals that are illegally transported across the southern border.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), “illicit fentanyl is primarily produced in clandestine laboratories overseas and smuggled into the United States through Mexico, where it is distributed throughout the country and sold in the illegal drug market.”

According to the DEA, there has been a significant increase in synthetic opioid overdose deaths, with illegally produced fentanyl being the primary culprit.

Pennsylvania is shaping up to be one of the most crucial states in the 2024 election, potentially determining control of the presidential and U.S. Senate, and one of its most pressing issues is a surge in drug overdose deaths and substance abuse.

Pennsylvania had the 14th highest drug overdose death rate in the country in 2022. There were a total of 5,169 drug overdose deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

After Casey ran an ad criticizing McCormick over his investment in HumanWell, the Pennsylvania Republican removed his ad and claimed “Bob Casey is lying about me.”

“I have never invested in an illegal fentanyl manufacturer,” he said. “Bob Casey is too weak to close the border and too weak to tell the truth.”

Casey’s Pennsylvania Senate seat is seen as “leaning Democratic” in the 2024 election, according to nonpartisan political handicapper The Cook Political ReportIn a recent opinion poll, The New York Times Casey led McCormick among likely voters 51% to 37% and among registered voters 50% to 36% in the Siena College polls.
