Cat named 'Garfield' saved from train tracks after being hit by a train on Long Island.

A cat has somehow managed to gain a few extra lives.

A friendly feline survived an encounter with a Long Island Rail Road train and was rescued from the tracks thanks to a considerate engineer and some rescue workers.

This fluffy orange cat was first seen by train engineers on Saturday night near Lindenhurst Station. Initially, they thought the cat was dead.

It wasn’t until nearly a day later, on Sunday evening, that the engineer spotted the cat again—alive, surprisingly. He then reached out to cat rescuer John DeBacker, who contacted the MTA Police for help.

A video shared by DeBacker showed officers approaching the cat after cutting off the power to the tracks.

“The scariest thing for me was not knowing what was going on in the cat’s mind,” DeBacker mentioned.

As they approached, the little furball, which only had a scar on its face, was captured using a net and placed in a crate.

“He didn’t try to bite me at all. Once I picked him up, he was very affectionate,” the rescue expert said.

Later named Garfield, after the famous cartoon character, the orange and white cat was seen meowing loudly on video.

Fortunately, Garfield seemed frightened but not seriously injured following the train incident, according to police.

South Shore Feral Care in West Babylon, which took Garfield in, updated that he will soon meet with a veterinary team, including an orthopedic surgeon.

In a Facebook post, the rescue group expressed their disbelief, asking how to describe a condition of being “hit by a train but stable.” They shared their amazement at the outcome.

Garfield, known for being quite affectionate, really craves attention, according to the rescue team.

“This little mushball just wants to lean over and get patted for reassurance during his exam,” they wrote.

It’s worth noting that power to the rails was turned off for only three minutes, and LIRR service continued without interruption.
