Cate Blanchett and Selena Gomez in a New Film
Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett is teaming up with singer and actress Selena Gomez for a new X-rated movie directed by Brady Corbet.
As reported by Variety, Corbet, who directed “The Brutalist,” has also brought Michael Fassbender on board for this intriguing project. During a Master Class session at the Cannes Film Festival, Blanchett mentioned she was “working on a film with Brady Corbett.” The report also highlighted Gomez’s involvement—she’s not only a well-known singer but also an executive producer for “Only Murders in the Building.”
Corbet has previously hinted that this upcoming film would take place in the ’70s, adding an interesting layer to its setting.
Though the specific roles for Blanchett and Gomez remain a mystery, it’s worth noting that this would be their first venture into adult film territory.
In a past interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Corbet shared insights about his filming style. The film will span from the 19th century to today, focusing predominantly on the ’70s. He described the movie as “really, really genre-defying.”
When discussing the technical aspects, Corbet let slip that the film will utilize a unique filming format, although the specific reasons for this choice weren’t disclosed. He did mention they would be shooting entirely in 70mm, which should yield some compelling visuals.
“The plan is to do a lot of work in 8-perf and 15-perf,” he elaborated, expressing excitement over this unconventional format for a project that isn’t an action movie. “I love big spectacles, so it’s intriguing to create something that’s completely different but uses similar technology.”
Corbet also noted that this undertaking is new ground for everyone involved, bringing both excitement and nervousness to the table. During the Storyhouse Screenwriting Festival in Dublin, he mentioned that the film’s script is quite lengthy, sitting at around 200 pages. For some context, his last film, “The Brutalist,” had a 165-page script and ran for three and a half hours.
