American Catholics now lean more toward former President Donald Trump than President Joe Biden, according to a Pew Research poll released Tuesday.
The survey examines U.S. voters’ preferences based on their religious affiliation, and U.S. Catholic voters appear to be paying close attention to Biden, a self-described Catholic.
Opinion polls show Trump has an advantage take the lead Biden had a 1 percentage point lead among all voters. However, among Catholics in particular, a majority supported Trump, with 55% favoring Trump and 43% favoring Biden, a difference of 12 points.
Among non-Hispanic white Catholics, Mr. Trump leads by 23 points, 61% to Mr. Biden’s 38%. Opinion among Hispanic Catholics is almost evenly divided, with Biden’s approval rating at 49% and Trump’s approval rating at 47%, two percentage points ahead of Trump.
Even among Protestant voters, Trump has a 22-point lead over Biden, with Biden’s approval rating at 60% and Biden’s approval rating at 39%. Trump leads Biden among white evangelicals, 81% to 17%, and among non-evangelical whites, 57% to 41%, compared to 77% among black Protestants. Mr. Trump’s approval rating is 18%, supporting Mr. Biden.
As expected, Mr. Biden leads Mr. Trump among religious independents, 69% to 28%.

About three-quarters of white evangelical Protestant voters say President Trump has been a “great” (37%) or “good” (37%) president. Roughly half of white Catholics and white non-evangelical Protestants share this view.
When it comes to Biden, atheists and black Protestants rate the current president’s performance most favorably. About half of voters in each of these groups say Biden is a great or good president.
This development for Biden comes as the self-proclaimed Catholic is fully committed to abortion and promoting the killing of unborn children on Thursday’s National Day of Prayer. Many social media users were quick to point out the irony of Biden paying lip service to the Bible on the National Day of Prayer while openly promoting the ease of killing unborn children across the United States.

In April, Biden launched a seven-figure ad buy on abortion in Arizona, opposing Florida’s continued efforts to protect the lives of unborn children, particularly the six-week abortion ban that went into effect following the ruling. continues to do so.
