Border Enforcement Differences Highlighted by CBP Commissioner
During a recent event hosted by Breitbart, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott emphasized the stark contrast in border enforcement strategies between the Trump and Biden administrations. He characterized the difference as “pretty simple, it’s night and day.”
Scott pointed out that the Trump administration not only spoke about border issues but also took tangible steps to address them, such as collaborating with Congress and securing additional funding. He noted that the border situation had become chaotic during the Biden administration, which he claims “completely opened it up wide.”
He referenced comments made by Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin regarding “known ‘got aways’” and stressed that there were extensive stretches of the border where no agents or technology were deployed for extended periods. Scott indicated that border crossings once peaked at approximately 18,000 a day during the Biden era, but those numbers have since diminished significantly.
The monthly data released by CBP, Border Patrol, and the Department of Homeland Security reflect this shift since President Trump returned to office. On September 16, officials announced a remarkable 16 consecutive months without any releases at the Southern border, marking a historic decline in border crossings not seen in over thirty years, with daily apprehensions plummeting by 94 percent compared to the Biden administration.
Scott credited this improvement to effective policies, the dedication of law enforcement personnel, and the cessation of the “catch-and-release” practice concerning illegal immigrants. He also mentioned that CBP is expected to announce a full year without any new entrants being released at the border.
According to Scott, this significant shift sends a strong message globally about the futility of investing in human smuggling. He questioned the reasoning behind paying cartels to undertake such dangerous journeys.
He added that cartels rely on illegal immigrants to create distractions for law enforcement, enabling them to smuggle drugs and potential threats into the United States. “They need clutter to drive their costs down, and now they don’t have it,” he asserted.
