CBS should send Gail Kings into space more frequently.
“CBS Morning” anchor gets on track with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin for 11 minutes – all female crews, including pop star Katy Perry and Amazon founder fiance Lauren Sanchez, have earned a rare newest first place finish.
However, the rating boost was almost as short as King’s Space Jam, and the show quickly returned to its low depth.
The widely punk spectacle, which aired on television last Monday, snatched the rocket past ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “Today,” which, according to Nielsen’s latest rating, attracted around 3.9 million viewers in total.
It was the show’s best performance across viewers since March 8, 2021. King Best Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry captivated 4.82 million viewers.
However, despite a strong performance last Monday, “CBS Mornings” came in third in total viewers this week, Nielsen said.
The show, co-hosted by King, Nate Burleson and Tony Docpal, averaged 2.45 million viewers this week, following “GMA” (2.7 million) and “Today” (2.5 million).
The female star-studded team, including civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former Nasa engineer Aisha Boue and film producer Kellianne Flynn, became the first all-female crew to visit space since Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Teleskova made a solo flight in 1963.
Nevertheless, celebrities, including Olivia Mann and Joe Logan, called out stunts of ratings.
“I know this is probably uncomfortable,” Mann said. “Today I’m with Jenna and friends.” April 3rd said, “But it’s a lot of money to go to space, and there are many who can’t even afford to buy eggs.”
“I think it’s a bit of a groan,” and the “Your Friends and Neighbors” star added at the time. “Space exploration was about promoting our knowledge and helping humanity.”
Perry in particular was mercilessly laughed at him because of his attitude on and after-season. The “Fireworks” singer brought Daisy during flight, paying tribute to her young daughter, Daisy, to flash to the camera as the crew floated around the capsule.
Back on Earth, the 40-year-old jumped out of the capsule, fell on her lap and kissed the Texas soil.
Hours after the rocket landed safely, King applauded in hatred.
“We can all talk about young women, young girls, reactions about what this represents,” King said.
Sanchez also fought back against critics.
“I’m really fired. I want to meet the thousands of employees who come to blue origins and not only work here, but who have put their hearts and souls in this vehicle,” she said.
