The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced new guidelines for the coronavirus, including treating the coronavirus like the flu and eliminating the five-day quarantine.
“The new guidance provides guidance for common respiratory viral diseases such as coronavirus disease (COVID-19), influenza, and RSV, which can cause significant health impacts and burdens on hospitals and healthcare workers. “brings a unified approach to addressing risks,” the CDC said.in press release on friday.
“While not all respiratory viruses behave in the same way, adopting a uniform approach to limiting the spread of the disease makes recommendations easier to follow and therefore more likely to be adopted. It also eliminates the need to rely on individuals to test for the disease, although data show this method is heterogeneous,” the CDC said.
In stark contrast to previous COVID-19 guidelines, the CDC has significantly rolled back precautions regarding the virus.
The CDC currently states that people who test positive for COVID-19 do not need to isolate themselves from others for at least five days, a recommendation developed at the end of 2021. At the beginning of the pandemic, the CDC recommended that people who test positive take the following steps: 10 days quarantine period.
Currently, government health agencies say people should return to normal activities after “at least 24 hours have passed and their symptoms have generally improved and their fever has subsided without the use of fever-reducing medications.” said.
“Treatments are available for patients with COVID-19 and influenza that can alleviate symptoms and lower the risk of severe illness,” the CDC declared.
The CDC advised infected people to wear well-fitting masks and keep their distance from others.
The new guidelines also recommend “taking further steps to clean the air.”
The CDC’s “aggressive recommendations for core prevention steps and strategies” include “bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or congregating outdoors.”
The CDC also recommended keeping your COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations up to date.
“Today’s announcements reflect the progress we have made in protecting against severe illness caused by COVID-19, but we still remain vulnerable to serious illness caused by the respiratory virus,” said CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen. “We need to use common sense solutions that we know work to protect ourselves and others from serious illness.” — This includes vaccinations, treatment, and staying home when sick. ”
Health officials say the U.S. is now seeing “significant declines in hospitalizations and deaths related to COVID-19, and we have more tools than ever to fight influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus.” It said it was updating its coronavirus guidelines.
