Chef Andrew Zimmern Celebrates Gas Station Food
According to well-known chef Andrew Zimmern, gas station cuisine is a quintessential part of American food culture, much like pizza. In an interview, he shared that he has spent much of his 25-year career traveling across various locations.
“I don’t know if anyone has visited as many places as I have over the last 20 and a half years,” he commented. Zimmern asserts that he has earned the right to vouch for gas station food.
Currently, he is collaborating with Iowa’s Casey’s Gas Stations to promote his new BBQ Brisket Pizza. “What’s really involved is our own sense of adventure,” Zimmern continued. “You don’t have to sail across an ocean to find an adventure. Just stepping into a local spot to sample their unique foods can fulfill that longing.”
The chef expressed his enthusiasm for Casey’s new BBQ Brisket Pizza, highlighting its wholesome ingredients. “It’s something that brings me joy in feeding my family. In today’s economy, it’s important to have an affordable pizza option that can easily serve a family of four without breaking the bank,” he noted.
But Zimmern emphasized that gas station food extends beyond pizza. “When you find yourself in Arizona and enjoy a breakfast burrito made by grandmothers, with freshly rolled eggs and crunchy potatoes, you’re experiencing something truly special,” he said.
Zimmern also has no reservations about indulging in comfort foods while traveling. “You can aim for a healthy lifestyle until, of course, you hit a cheat moment,” he admitted. “If I were to consume three pizzas every day, all year long, that might not be ideal for my health.” However, he added, “I don’t want to live in a world where pizza doesn’t exist. I want to enjoy it when I feel like it, perhaps with a nice soda on the side.”
