FDA Approves First GLP-1 Pill for Weight Loss
The FDA has given the green light for the first GLP-1 pill aimed at weight loss, marking a significant milestone in weight management options. This approval came after extensive reviews and discussions surrounding GLP-1 medications, which have already gained popularity through injectable forms. Experts, including senior medical analyst Dr. Mark Siegel, have been vocal about comparing these pills to their injection-based counterparts.
As 2025 progresses, celebrities are actively sharing their health journeys. Many, like Oprah Winfrey, have notably used GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic to assist in their weight loss efforts.
1st Place: Oprah Winfrey
Oprah recently spoke with People magazine about her ongoing weight loss journey and her new book, *Enough: Your Health, Your Weight and What It’s Like to Be Free*. In her 71 years, she has tackled many struggles with weight, including a notable moment when she shared drinking 17 tequila shots in one night before ultimately deciding to give up alcohol, thanks to the influence of GLP-1 medications.
Initially starting the drug in 2023, Winfrey opted to stop after six months to see if she could manage her weight without it. Unfortunately, she experienced a weight regain of 20 pounds despite changes in diet and exercise. “It’s going to be a lifelong thing,” Winfrey reflected, realizing her reliance on medication parallels her need for high blood pressure meds.
With a default weight of 211 pounds, Winfrey acknowledged her previous health concerns like prediabetes and high cholesterol. She credits her focus on diet—removing the distractions of eating—as a significant contributor to her mental strength during this change.
She also emphasizes the importance of compassion for those struggling with obesity, stating it’s often beyond their control.
2nd Place: Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer lost a staggering 50 pounds after being diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome, a condition that can lead to severe swelling and fatigue. Following her transformation, she faced speculation regarding possible cosmetic surgeries, which she firmly dismissed on social media. “I didn’t lose 30 pounds. I lost 50 pounds. I haven’t had Botox or fillers,” she stated clearly.
Schumer expressed that her weight loss was primarily about survival rather than appearances, revealing that she used the GLP-1 drug Mounjaro in her journey. “I did it to survive,” she explained, reflecting on the challenges she faced with her health.
3rd Place: Meghan Trainor
Pop star Meghan Trainor also navigated her health journey amid body-shaming remarks, losing 60 pounds. She shared that she has never felt better, focusing on her health for the first time since becoming a mother. Despite the negative comments she receives, Trainor keeps prioritizing her well-being. “We have to find a way to not be affected by that,” she mentioned.
Her health improvements came from dietary shifts, including eliminating gluten and dairy after discovering her “leaky gut.” She also emphasized a commitment to strength training.
4th Place: Lizzo
Lizzo, known for her impactful performances, has recently showcased her weight loss, prompting discussions around her use of GLP-1. When speaking on a podcast, she shared her struggles in the past while trying to lose weight, stating, “Ozempic works because it makes you eat less.”
Her journey included changing her diet significantly. After quitting a vegan diet high in fake meats, she found that incorporating whole foods allowed her to feel fuller and healthier.
For Lizzo, the motivation extended beyond vanity—it was a desire to alleviate severe back pain that hindered her performances. “I want to be Tina Turner. I want to play stadium shows when I’m 70,” she expressed, highlighting her long-term goals.
