In the midst of escalating tensions surrounding the Trump administration’s strict stance on illegal immigration, cellphone footage released on Friday depicts the moments leading to the tragic shooting of a woman by federal agents in Minneapolis.
This footage emerged two days after an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good as she drove toward him. The recording, captured from the perspective of the officer, shows Good’s Honda Pilot parked in a residential area, seemingly obstructing traffic.
“That’s fine, dude,” Good can be heard saying to the agent. “I’m not angry.”
The agent circles the vehicle, checking the license plate. Shortly thereafter, another agent approaches Good’s car and instructs her to exit the vehicle. “Get out of the car. Get out of the car,” he orders.
Good then shifts the car into reverse before accelerating forward towards the agent, who is wearing a body camera. Just before the gunfire, I noticed the agent saying “Oops.”
Her vehicle subsequently crashes into a parked car. The events leading to her death have triggered significant backlash against the Trump administration and fierce criticism of ICE officers’ actions.
While federal officials defended the operatives by claiming self-defense and described the incident as an act of domestic terrorism, Democratic representatives dismissed the self-defense argument.
Interestingly, the officer who fired the shot had previously sustained injuries after being dragged by a fleeing driver in an unrelated incident last year. Authorities indicated that Good had reportedly been trailing and provoking federal officers earlier that day.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that Good was an immigration activist based in Minneapolis and was involved with ICE Watch, a group focused on monitoring and resisting federal immigration enforcement efforts across several sanctuary cities nationwide.
