Celsius Faces Recall Due to Labeling Confusion
John Fieldly, the CEO of Celsius, recently announced plans to acquire Alani Nu during an appearance on “Claman Countdown.” This comes amidst some unexpected news regarding their energy drinks.
Recently, the company had to recall two productions—specifically, 12 packs of Noon Vodka Seltzer—after a labeling error mistakenly identified them as CELSIUS® AstroVibe™ energy drinks. This mislabeling caused confusion among consumers, as the cans contained a high alcohol content.
A spokesperson for Celsius pointed out how social media had erupted with reaction to the mix-up, describing it as creating a “viral sense.” Many Instagram users shared their thoughts, making light of the situation.
In a post from Friday, Celsius interacted with their audience by sharing a photo of their product and asking followers about their weekend plans, tagging it with #celsius.
One amused follower noted, “It’s obviously noon,” while another expressed love for the product and inquired about a non-alcoholic version. Another suggestion that caught on was the idea of launching “Celtzers,” a blend of the existing brands.
Celsius’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kyle Watson, commented on how they responded to the online chatter about the recall. He mentioned that it was crucial for the company to maintain a genuine connection with their community while ensuring accurate information about the recall circulated.
Ultimately, while the social media backlash could have been damaging, Celsius managed to turn it into a moment of engagement, providing guidance and clarity to their consumers.
They issued a formal recall notification on July 29, fully acknowledging the situation and working to address customer concerns.
