Celtic came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Hibernian, extending their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 20 points. Hibernian’s Martin Boyle first put the visitors ahead, but Celtic responded swiftly with two goals in four minutes right before halftime, thanks to Nicholas Kuhn and Adam Ida.
Reo Hatate netted his 11th goal of the season in the second half, marking Celtic’s second loss in 20 league matches against David Gray’s squad.
Brendan Rodgers had hinted at significant changes in his lineup, but fitness issues affected all three planned adjustments. Returnees Kasper Schmeichel and Kuhn featured in the game, while Auston Trusty stepped in for the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Initially, Celtic dominated play, but Ida missed a couple of opportunities to score, failing to capitalize despite being in good positions. Eventually, he did find the net after a clean run.
Schmeichel made a brilliant save against Boyle, who may have been offside before scoring in the 25th minute. Trusty struggled to clear a shot from Josh Campbell, allowing Boyle to score from close range.
Arne Engels took a shot for Hibernian, narrowly avoiding a VAR check for handball against Chris Cadden. Kuhn equalized as Smith rounded up, following a deflected play that allowed him an open shot.
As Hibernian’s defense lost track of Ida, Kuhn quickly turned provider, delivering a precise through ball.
Bushiri tried to create distance with long throws at the start of the second half, and both Jack Idell and Kyun received yellow cards after a tussle off the ball.
Celtic extended their lead after a brilliant display of one-touch football around the box, scoring from Engels’ assist.
Ida had another opportunity but was called offside on his second attempt. Schmeichel made another save from Jordan Ovita, coming on for Junior Hoylett, which eased any late-game nerves.
In the 85th minute, Rodgers introduced 17-year-old Sean McCardle, who displayed promising skills and an eagerness to push forward. Luke McCowan had a good chance with a slow save from Smith, solidifying Celtic’s win.
