Tragic Loss of CFL Player Jayden Dalke

Jayden Dalke, a linebacker with the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, tragically died in a car accident on Saturday night. He was just 30 years old.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Dalke was driving against traffic on the highway prior to the collision. His passenger, 22-year-old Bheeshma Rajaguru, also lost his life in the incident.

At the time of the crash, Dalke was on his way back to Regina after spending farewell week with family and friends in his hometown of Leduc.

Reportedly, his vehicle contained considerable amounts of marijuana and alcohol. Earlier in the evening, around 8:30 p.m. CST, RCMP received a report about a silver SUV that had left a gas station without paying. Approximately half an hour later, that same SUV was involved in the fatal crash.

In a heartfelt statement, the league expressed, “It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news of Jayden’s passing. He was a passionate competitor who played with incredible heart. Off the field, he will be remembered for his leadership in the locker room and his dedication to the community. The CFL has lost a teammate, a Canadian brother, and a friend. We extend our deepest condolences to Jayden’s family, friends, the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization, and all those whose lives were touched by him.”

Dalke was drafted by the Roughriders in the sixth round of the 2022 CFL Canada Draft, taken 54th overall from the University of Alberta. He played on the team that won the Gray Cup in 2025, marking a significant moment in the franchise’s history.

In reflection, the team shared, “A relentless warrior on the field, Jayden’s determination, toughness, and work ethic inspired his teammates, who cared deeply about him and are mourning his loss. He truly embodied what it means to be a Saskatchewan Roughrider.” The team added their thoughts were with the Dalke family, who crossed the country to support Jayden in achieving his dreams. “We will miss him dearly and will never forget the impact he had on our lives and our team.”
