A US Navy officer has been charged with murdering his wife, who was discovered strangled six months ago in a hotel room in Japan.
Jessica “Jesse” Alguinzoni Orsen, 37, was found deceased on October 27 in a room at Hotel Sol in Fukuoka.
Surveillance footage indicates that the couple checked into the hotel on October 25, and by October 27, the sailor left on his own. At that time, he was serving in a naval surface group stationed in San Diego.
After staff at the hotel reported the incident, Olsen was questioned but not arrested immediately. It’s unclear why it took so long for charges to be formally filed.
Authorities, with assistance from Fukuoka police and the Navy Crime Investigation Service, allege that Olsen physically assaulted and strangled his wife in the hotel room.
The couple, who met at the University of New York at Oswego, got married in August 2009.
Jesse’s sister, Dominque Aguinzoni, remarked that the couple seemed happy together, saying, “We didn’t see any issues.” However, reflecting on their relationship, she noted that Jesse had been distancing herself from family by communicating less frequently.
Aside from the murder charge, Olsen is also facing accusations of obstruction of justice during his preliminary hearing at Naval Base San Diego.
Having enlisted in the Navy in April 2014, Olsen received a promotion to Surface Officer last July.
He could potentially face a court-martial, which may result in a dishonorable discharge, confinement, or even the death penalty.
A Navy spokesperson emphasized the commitment to a fair military justice system, asserting that the accused remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
