Charlamagne the God Shares Experience with ICE at LaGuardia
On Monday, Charlamagne the God, host of “The Breakfast Club,” reflected on a surprising encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at New York’s LaGuardia Airport last Friday. Interestingly, he had quite a positive experience.
The administration under President Trump has positioned ICE agents at airports to support Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staff amid the ongoing partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Even though Charlamagne expressed admiration for the ICE agents, he speculated that their friendly demeanor might be influenced by electoral politics.
“When I left LaGuardia Airport, there weren’t any TSA agents around,” he noted. “ICE took care of everything for us.”
Co-host DJ Envy later asked about Charlamagne’s experience.
“Honestly, they were great,” Charlamagne responded. “In that terminal, they were especially kind, almost like those Chick-fil-A workers.” He then thought, “I can’t believe this is the same group known for their presence in places like Minnesota, where they wear masks.”
He continued, “They appeared friendly, and it felt a bit off. I think it’s a psychological move for the midterms. If they project a helpful image now, who’s to say how people will feel about ICE’s presence at polling places in November?”
Meanwhile, Senate Democrats supported the partial shutdown on February 14, reacting to recent immigration-related shootings and seeking reforms in exchange for full DHS funding.
The shutdown has resulted in numerous TSA employees facing job insecurity after weeks without pay. Recently, President Trump issued an order to ensure TSA staff receive compensation during the shutdown.
On Monday, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt mentioned that the President is urging Congress to end their break and work towards reopening the DHS.
Additionally, White House Border Czar Tom Homan, during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” clarified that he was not privy to discussions regarding ICE’s role at polling places for the midterm elections.
