Charlamagne Tha God Claims Investigation into Letitia James is Retaliation by Trump
On Thursday, radio host Charlamagne Tha God commented on the federal investigation concerning New York Attorney General Letitia James, suggesting it was simply “retaliation” from former President Donald Trump.
The FBI and U.S. Attorneys from the Upstate District of New York have reportedly initiated a formal probe into James following a claim made on May 8. James has frequently characterized the investigation as an act of revenge aimed at Trump. During an episode of “Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne reiterated this perspective, stating, “I think this is nothing more than retaliation for the accusations that Letitia James made against Donald Trump.” He further noted that Trump seems to have a list of individuals he targets, and James is certainly among them.
When Pam Bondy became Attorney General, she set up a working group to look into the actions of former special counsel Jack Smith regarding Trump and his connections with Bragg and James. Interestingly, reports from April 1 indicate evidence of alleged misconduct by James.
William J. Prute, who heads the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency, wrote a letter that accused James of falsifying mortgage records with the Department of Justice on April 14. According to reports from Times Union, this letter claims that James improperly labeled her Norfolk, Virginia, residence as her “major residence,” despite the legal requirement to have a primary residence in New York. The primary home mortgage offers more favorable loan terms than a secondary residence, which is crucial in such cases.
In his communication to Bondi and Associate Attorney General Todd Blanche, Pulte mentioned, “Based on media coverage, Leticia James has altered bank documents and property records on several occasions to secure government loans and better lending terms.” This includes misrepresenting her living situation and the property details to qualify for government-supported loans.
Interestingly, the Daily Color News Foundation found no evidence that James actually lives at either of the two Virginia locations mentioned in the fraud allegations when they visited these residences on April 16.
James has been committed to investigating Trump since her campaign for Attorney General in 2018. She filed a lawsuit against him in September 2022, asserting that he inflated property values to secure loans. This ultimately led to a court ruling requiring him to pay $354 million, with additional penalties exceeding $450 million due by February 2024.
