Although he supported him in 2020, Charlamagne is defending his decision not to publicly support President Biden ahead of this year’s election, saying “both candidates are trash.”
“I’m going to vote in November, and I’m going to vote in my best interest,” the “Breakfast Club” radio host told his co-hosts. “The View” on wednesday.
“I actually think both candidates are trash,” the TV personality, born Leonard McKelvey, said of Biden and former President Trump.
“I’m going to vote for whoever I think can keep our democracy going,” said Charlamagne, who is God.
“If I think both candidates are no good and I’m not interested in supporting one or the other, would I rather support the individual or the fact that we have to go out and defend our democracy?” he asked.
“If I were to sit here and tell the audience that there is someone who is threatening our democracy, this is someone who is saying he wants to suspend the Constitution to overturn the election results, this is someone who is trying to stage a coup d’état in this country. “If you’re talking about having seen… there are only two candidates,” he said.
“So if that’s what I’m saying about this person, the choice is clear,” Sharma the Great said.
He later said the threat to democracy was “Donald Trump, if you want me to elaborate on that.”
The author of Be Honest, Lie and Die has been critical of the 46th president, even though he has indicated he will vote for Biden without endorsing him. Last year, he called on Biden to withdraw from the White House race, citing his low poll numbers.
The 45-year-old radio pro, who described Republicans as “con men” and Democrats as “cowards,” said the two parties were competing with apathetic voters.
“Right now, it feels like voter apathy is winning out,” he said. “But whose fault is that? Is it our fault or the candidates’ fault?”
Asked by co-host Sarah Haines what Democrats could do to shed the “coward” label, Charlamagne spoke to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene during a House Oversight Committee hearing last week. He praised Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who famously clashed with (R-Georgia). Mr. Crockett, who was insulted by Greene about his appearance, criticized his Republican colleague in a roundabout way, calling him a “bleach-blond, ill-built manly body.”
“The former first lady once instructed us to play by saying, ‘If they go low, we go high,'” Charmagne said, referring to Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. He spoke, referring to the beliefs that made him famous.
“I think we need to back away from that play,” he said in his advice to Democrats. “When they go down, we have to take them to the floor with them.”
