Charlamagne tha God: Schumer, Jeffries should step down

Radio host Charlamagne Tar denounced Democratic leaders in Congress on Friday, calling for Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) to be aside.

“The Democrats, the party of inaction, were unable to protect the interests of Americans,” he said on the radio show The Breakfast Club. “And do you know why Dem sucks messaging? Because they don't say anything, they don't do anything.”

“Dems don't just have messaging issues. They had leadership issues,” he continued. “World Chuck Schumer, Hakem Jeffries Schumer, they should all resign.”

His comments arise amidst the internal chaos within the party. This was only made worse when Schumer broke his party ranks to vote to advance the GOP-backed spending bill in the Senate.

The bill passed 54-46 votes on Friday evening and conspired with Democrats, with the support of Officers Jeanne Shaheen (DN.H.) and Angus King (I-Maine). All but one Democrats opposed the House vote action earlier this week.

After Schumer announced Thursday he would not support the Filibuster, several House Democrats blew up Schumer for his decision after urging the Senate to fight the bill.

“There's a deep sense of anger and betrayal,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y. “And this isn't just progressive Democrats, it's all about the whole, the whole party.”

Jeffries, who opposed the bill, declined to answer a reporter's questions about Schumer's confidence in leadership on Friday.

“What we're saying is [that] We look forward to continuing to work with our Senate colleagues (all of them) against extremism that is being unleashed by the American people,” he continued. “But for now, we're focusing on everyday Americans, children, families, veterans, the people we're fighting for, people that Donald Trump and House Republicans are intentionally trying to hurt them.”

Charlamane repeated the criticism of House Democrats on Friday, calling for lawmakers to become primers.

“Dem, who is fighting for people and not standing with parties, should be primari,” Charlamane added.

Schumer called the halt of funding a “bad bill,” but argued that it would be even worse for the government to shut down the helm with President Trump.

“We all know that [Elon] Musk and [the Department of Government Efficiency] And Trump wants to destroy the federal government, have them shut down the government and allow them to shut down the government. They would have done it within a few weeks,” Schumer said in a CNN interview on Friday ahead of the final vote on the resolution.

He also said his Caucus repeatedly supported his leadership, and that he was “in sync” with the party.

However, Charlamane on Friday questioned Schumer's logic, arguing that Democrats should offer alternative funding measures.

“What does the bill mean to suck? He asked. “Are you not even going to try to present something different?”

Democrats have been hampering party leaders' response to the Trump administration as they continue to try to rebuild after the party's catastrophic November losses.
