Get it, Chuck!
Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley recently appeared on Dan Dakic’s “Don’t @Me” show where they discussed Barkley’s views on Nike and research related to adolescent blockers. Barkley admitted he wasn’t well-acquainted with the research or its connection to Nike, though he managed to share his stance.
“I’m going to keep this very straightforward, Dan. Men shouldn’t compete in sports against women,” Barkley stated. “I’m not getting into all the current issues.”
Barkley expressed that he doesn’t have issues with gay or transgender people, but emphasized that men should stay out of women’s sports.
“Men shouldn’t play against women. If that’s what someone is considering, I think it’s foolish,” he asserted. “I fully support the gay community and the transgender community, but I believe men competing in women’s sports is wrong, no matter the situation.”
Barkley further commented, “I don’t see this as a controversial matter… I don’t want to hear any explanations. I won’t debate this. Men should not compete in women’s sports. I’m done.”
Later in the discussion, Dakic revisited Nike’s research that included children as young as 12 years old. Barkley expressed his strong disapproval, saying, “This drives me crazy.” Dakic added, “Adults who transition their kids at such a young age—don’t mess with them.”
Barkley also mentioned the importance of protecting kids, saying, “Nobody knows who they are as a child. We need to be careful not to disadvantage them.”
