Charles Payne Addresses Trade Concerns
On Fox News Thursday, Charles Payne cautioned viewers about misleading trade statistics and globalist narratives.
Recently, the House approved a GOP-supported bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the US Gulf. During his discussion with Sean Hannity, the host highlighted that interactions with China are “inevitable,” given its reliance on the US market.
“I completely agree with you,” Payne stated. “It’s not just about isolation in the US. We can safeguard crucial parts of the economy, but let’s be clear—China isn’t shipping anything,” he added.
Payne pointed out various tactics that foreign countries use to undermine the US.
“Forget the official tariff numbers. Countries implement non-tariff barriers. For instance, in the UK, there are convoluted procurement processes and arbitrary standards. These effectively act as tariffs,” he explained.
He mentioned that many countries don’t rely on high tariffs to restrict US products. “China benefits because the idea of fair trade was entirely dismissed. This is a significant first step; I appreciate how this deal addresses non-tariff barriers,” Payne noted.
He further criticized the media for misleading the public by focusing mainly on tariff rates and neglecting the complex system of barriers that prevent American goods from entering foreign markets. “The media often overlooks that all tariffs are relatively low,” he remarked.
In a related development, President Donald Trump announced a new trade agreement with the UK, the first since imposing stringent tariffs in April. Addressing the nation from the Oval Office, Trump stated that this deal is expected to be finalized soon and aims to enhance market access for American manufacturers.
In April, Trump had enacted a 10% tariff on many UK imports along with 25% on steel and aluminum. In exchange for reductions on tariffs for steel and cars, UK officials plan to lower digital taxes and increase access for American products, although baseline tariffs may remain unchanged.
