'Charlie Kirk Effect' sparks religious revival, boosting Mass attendance and Bible reading

Community Response to Charlie Kirk’s Legacy

Recently, Rev. Jack Hibbs from Calvary Chapel in Chino Hills, California, spoke on Fox and Friends First, mentioning how Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, inspired many young Americans to discover their purpose in life.

There are reports of people expressing a desire to understand their life’s meaning. This surge in spiritual curiosity seems to have amplified following Kirk’s tragic death in Utah on September 10th. His outreach efforts, particularly toward young individuals, revived interest in faith and family values. Many are attributing this to the so-called “Charlie Kirk effect.”

Impact of Faith Among Students

Matt Zelousen, co-founder of Newman’s Department, a Catholic nonprofit, noted that student engagement in faith is noticeably increasing. He mentioned, “I’m really talking about many schools seeing significant attendance boosts—some are reporting a 15% increase,” as shared with the Catholic News Agency.

Social media is buzzing with individuals pledging to attend or return to church, crediting Kirk’s influence for their renewed interest. Additionally, Bible sales reportedly reached a staggering 10 million copies by August 2025, surpassing last year’s numbers by over a million.

A few weeks before his passing, Kirk took to X, remarking, “There is a resurrection in the Christian church. The young are turning back to faith in God.”

Kirk’s Enduring Legacy

William Wolf, Baptist Leadership Executive Director Centre, echoed sentiments shared by Pete Hegseth during remarks at Kirk’s memorial in Glendale, Arizona. Wolf noted, “Charlie Kirk initiated a political movement and evolved it into a Christian one.”

Wolf highlighted Kirk’s ability to connect young people not just to conservative politics, but back to their faith. He expressed, “I believe he made it trendy to be a Christian again.” His defense of faith resonated with many.

Kirk himself reflected on the importance of his faith, sharing in an interview with actor Russell Brand that, “I am nothing without Jesus. I am a sinner.” He often emphasized the significance of family values, urging others to “Marry, have children, build a legacy.”

In a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating his daughter’s third birthday, he mentioned, “I’d like to be remembered for the strength of my faith—that’s what truly matters.”
