Charlie Kirk recognized at several NFL games

Multiple NFL teams hosted home games during the early Sunday time slot and took a moment to honor Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Overall, the crowd’s reaction was largely positive.

Teams like the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboys held a moment of silence in memory of Kirk. At Nissan Stadium, for example, a crowd tribute took place to show respect.

Mixed Reactions Across the League

Interestingly, while some teams acknowledged Kirk, others chose not to. A game between the Green Bay Packers and Washington Commanders saw teams deciding how best to pay tribute, but only a few included Kirk’s name directly in their remembrances.

For instance, the Bengals, Lions, Ravens, and Steelers did not observe a moment of silence for him. The Steelers mentioned that they instead lowered the stadium flag to half-staff as their form of memorial.

A Tribute in Miami

In Miami, the teams honored not only Kirk but also victims of violence during their moment of silence. This homage was well-received but received mixed emotions, as there were cheers followed by a more subdued response.

Meanwhile, in Dallas, Kirk’s image was prominently displayed on a massive video board above the field, signaling their tribute to him. In New York, the Jets facilitated a brief acknowledgment before the game, although the crowd’s initial reception was mixed.

Noteworthy Gesture by the Jets

The Jets’ tribute is significant, especially given the Greater New York area’s complicated political landscape. Unlike the more conservative regions like Miami or Nashville, the Jets proceeded with their honoring of Kirk, even in the face of an audience that might not be entirely aligned with that respect.

This act deserves some recognition; after all, standing up for what’s right is always important.
