ChatGPT, a popular artificial intelligence-powered bot, suffered an outage early Thursday morning, according to tech giant OpenAI.
ET before dawn on Thursday, an error message appeared when trying to log into the site.
OpenAI's status page includes reports of “increased error rates” impacting ChatGPT as well as API, the company's cloud-based interface that gives developers access to the company's advanced AI models. It shows that you have received more than one.
“We are currently experiencing an increased error rate in our API. We are currently investigating,” OpenAI wrote in a status message posted just before 4 a.m. Pacific Time on Thursday.
Just 30 minutes or so later, OpenAI wrote that “the fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.”
At 4:43 a.m. PT, OpenAI wrote: “This issue has now been resolved. Between 3:33 a.m. and 4:23 a.m. PT, customers experienced increased error rates in ChatGPT and the API.”
The Post has reached out to OpenAI for comment.
ChatGPT, released in November 2022, is an advanced AI chatbot that enables natural language interactions.
It quickly grew as a consumer software, reaching 100 million users in two months and now processes over 1 billion messages every day and has 300 million weekly active users.
The bot is widely used in a variety of industries, including education, and in 2024, 26% of teens used a bot for homework.
Despite their success, they face challenges such as accuracy concerns and competition from other AI models.
