Cheryl Hines Reflects on Rifts and Support Amid Political Tensions

Actress Cheryl Hines, married to Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently shared insights about her lack of communication with comedian Larry David after the show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” concluded in 2024. She suggested, “I think he’s upset…because Bobby is now part of the administration.”

In a NewsNation interview on Wednesday, Hines elaborated on previous remarks, noting that it’s been over a year since she spoke to David, who she worked alongside for over two decades. David, known for his criticism of President Trump, is someone who introduced her to Kennedy years ago.

“Honestly, chatting with Larry would be fine,” Hines mentioned. “If I ran into him at a restaurant, I’d be glad to see him and would definitely say hello.”

Despite their long history, Hines seemed to minimize the depth of their friendship, stating, “We played pickleball back in the day, but it’s not like that’s happening now. I only see him occasionally for work or lunch. I haven’t been in L.A. when he is, so… I hope it’s all good. I think we’ll be okay, though politics can complicate things.”

In response to a question about feeling isolated in Hollywood due to her husband’s political role, Hines acknowledged mixed sentiments. “Many people have been supportive,” she noted. “I’ve had some reach out asking if I’m okay, saying they admire Bobby’s work and back us 100 percent.” Yet, she also recognized that some friends are quite upset about Kennedy’s position in the Trump administration. “I get it, I respect their feelings. It hasn’t led to any dramatic fallout, though.”

Since her husband took on his role, Hines has voiced concerns about the backlash from her fellow entertainers, suggesting a double standard in the industry. Reflecting on this, she said, “I relate to actors who want to express their ethics, but I haven’t been politically inclined myself. It’s eye-opening to see how the climate discourages open discussion unless your views align with the prevailing sentiment.”

She concluded, “They’re promoting inclusivity, but it feels conditional. Because I’m married to Bobby, suddenly there’s a line drawn.”
