(WHTM) – Owners of certain Chevrolet and GMC trucks can claim a $35 million settlement over claims that General Motors concealed defects in high-pressure fuel injection pumps.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit allege that the component, known as the CP4 pump, is “unreasonably fragile and prone to catastrophic failure.” When pump parts rub against each other, metal shavings can flake off, contaminate the fuel injection system, and even cause the engine to stall, the lawsuit alleges.
Affected truck owners would then incur significant mechanic costs.
General Motors denied that its parts were defective, but agreed to settle the lawsuit “to avoid the cost, risk, and delay associated with further litigation,” the report said. Payment administrator JND Legal Affairs Bureau.
