Chicago Leaders Criticized Amid Ongoing Violence
Zoe Leigh recently expressed her frustration with Chicago’s leadership during an appearance on a morning news show. She harshly criticized local officials for rejecting President Trump’s offer of federal aid as violence escalates in the city.
Referring to Chicago’s Democratic Mayor, Brandon Johnson, and other local leaders, Leigh described them as “useless” at a press conference. She elaborated on her background, mentioning that she only faced gun violence after moving from Albany, New York, to Chicago in her mid-20s.
She recalled heartbreaking incidents, saying, “My mother was originally from Chicago, and seeing the elderly, children, and young people being killed—it’s becoming normal, and that’s just not right.” Over Labor Day weekend, data from the Chicago Police Department reported eight fatalities and over 50 injuries due to shootings.
During the same press conference, Governor JB Pritzker seemingly declined to request National Guard assistance for the city, despite Trump’s remarks indicating federal intervention could take place. This position frustrated many, including local business owners who demand improved law enforcement in the area.
In a further comment, Johnson criticized Trump for allegedly exploiting gun violence victims to expand his powers, asserting that the “violence issue” is tied to the greater “gun issue” in the Red State. He signed an order that prohibits local police from collaborating with federal forces, aiming to uphold the Constitution and protect the city’s residents.
Despite the challenges, Leigh remains vocal about what she sees as a lack of accountability among Chicago’s longstanding “progressive Democratic gang.” She believes they’re prioritizing politics over the safety of the community.
As discussions continue and the city grapples with its ongoing violence, the dynamics between local leadership and federal aid remain contentious.
