Mass Grave Discovered in Mexico Amid Ongoing Investigation
Authorities in Mexico have not provided comments regarding the recent discovery of a mass grave that contains the bodies of four individuals, including two men from Chicago who went missing in May.
This week, the discovery occurred south of Mexico City in the rural Valle de Silencio area, situated in the Marquesa region. As reported by Mexico’s Zeta magazine, the search operation led to the finding of three male bodies and two females. Details from the government remain sparse, but sources indicated that the operation was aimed at locating Zafar Padamsee Mawani and Guillermo Hidalgo Ortiz, a couple last seen on May 20.
According to Zeta, the couple had relocated to Tlalpan, a municipality in Mexico City, after departing from Chicago due to political issues in the United States. The two men were reportedly abducted shortly after leaving their residence for shopping. One of them managed to send a location before disappearing, which was noted to be along the road leading to the Marquesa area.
Local news from Chicago highlighted that Mexican officials have been minimal in sharing information since the men’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, this troubling development unfolds as Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum maintains that crime rates have declined during her administration, despite pressure from senior U.S. officials for action against drug cartels.
