Chicago's Alderman told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that city officials still wanted to bypass funds from the police station, despite the fact that city officials once again became the nation's murder capital in 2024.
“I told the last two mayors this too,” said Anthony Napolitano, 41st Ward Alderman. “It's not like these last two governments turn a blind eye, because their goal is to demonize police stations, and they ignore crime rates, so their goal is to steal police budgets.”
In 2024, Chicago had 573 murders, leading the country in that category for the 13th year in a row.
The city's homicide rate per 100,000 people was five times higher than New York City's 377 and three times higher than Los Angeles' 280. Analysis with WirePoints.
“They are very high budgets and they are allotted to other resources and projects they want to achieve during their tenure, so they want to take that police budget,” Napolitano said. “It's destroying our city. It's clear what's going on.”
According to Napolitano, one of these projects, South/West, was a “magnificent failure.”
The project, which began in 2019, was assigned a $250 million taxpayer fund to the project to revitalize Southwest Chicago in the hopes of luring businesses into the area, according to the city.
“Investsouth/West is one of the biggest epic mistakes they've had,” Napolitano said. “Instead of investing in one area in one area, don't make the entire city safe by investing in the safety of our police and our city.
Napolitano also noted that city leaders used vast resources to support illegal immigrants for political purposes, and believed that former Vice President Kamala Harris would get more support from the federal government if he won the November election.
“The federal government gave us nothing [Democrats] “Now when the administration changes, we are still a sanctuary city, so we have no gains at all. So this is one obstacle after the next obstacle.”
He also said his members were furious because there is not much violent criminal activity in his ward. In other words, police resources are directed to deal with violent crimes elsewhere, away from the district.
This means that robbery or other minor crimes committed in the 41st District will make residents more difficult to obtain the help they need.
“So it's just an evolution of pure bulls – by these people,” he said. “The last two administrations are the worst the city has ever seen.”
